How to Wear Bold Colours| Colour blocking 2024

The colour yellow equals sunshine. Fact. You can’t see yellow without thinking wow. It’s a colour that whenever I see people wearing it, I always appreciate – whether it be a dress, a top or a yellow shoe. But, I really think if you’re the latter you should reconsider. One key piece in any colour is a good place to start and before you know it you’ll be stepping out in the yellow co-ords and suits that also dominate this season. It’s one of the biggest colour stories for fashion this year and there really is something for everyone.

Wearing pink will always be synonymous with Spring and Summer and there are so many updated ways to wear it this year: With mixed prints, in pastel form and, for our purposes, boldly.

With the excitement of the Barbie movie allowing us to indulge in all things pink, this really is a colour to wear in 2024.  Think gorgeous fuchsia pinks for a universally wearable hue and mix them with whatever you like from muted neutrals to contrasting colour blocks (a bit more on those below!). The suit is huge this year and I’ve seen so many great ones in pink, I’m so tempted. To think I never gravitated towards pink before, now so much is in my wardrobe!

You really should consider green – it’s such a great colour to take you right through the year from Autumn/ Winter to Spring/Summer, and repeat. Wear it with neutrals, with brights (see below),  with browns –  or just head to toe, but it’s another one that suits everyone.

I loved the Victoria Beckham collection where she teamed red heels with a green dress – just to prove red and green should always be seen!

Coral Rose was one of Pantone’s fashion colours to watch and wear for 2022 and continues into 2024. It’s described as a floral tone whose energising presence brings a sense of uplift,  which makes it a great colour for clothing and interior decor and perfect for where we are now. For a tonal look it works well with rich orange red tones. Orange on its own is undoubtedly bold and I think it’s fabulous for the warmer weather, holidays and special events where you want something extra.

Hues of blue can be so beautiful. We all know how to wear and work with denim, so maybe it’s time to take it a step further, apply the same principles and go bold with blue!

Red is somewhat of a mainstay classic.  It works so well in monochrome, but why not let it really pop by pairing it with another colour. Red and pink seems to be a colour combination we’re going to see more of – it’s all about that colour blocking as we’ll discuss later!
